🌱 Vegetable Garden & Poultry Project
Growing Food. Raising Hope. Sustaining Futures.
At Lights of Kazinga Orphanage, our Vegetable Garden and Poultry Project is a sustainable initiative focused on food security, nutrition, and community empowerment.
Located near Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda, this project ensures that vulnerable children and families have access to fresh, nutritious food while creating income-generating opportunities.
🥬 The Vegetable Garden Initiative
Our garden produces a variety of fresh vegetables such as:
Tomatoes
Sukuma wiki (collard greens)
Onions
Cabbage
Eggplants
Green peppers
The produce is used to feed the children at the orphanage, reducing food costs and improving daily nutrition. Surplus vegetables are sold within the community to generate income for school fees, medical care, and daily needs.
Participants learn:
✔ Organic farming techniques
✔ Composting and soil management
✔ Water conservation methods
✔ Small-scale agribusiness skills
🐔 The Poultry Project
Our poultry unit provides:
Fresh eggs for daily meals
Nutritious protein for growing children
Income through egg and chicken sales
Youth and community members are trained in:
Poultry care and management
Feeding and vaccination practices
Disease prevention
Small-scale poultry business skills
This project not only supports food security but also teaches practical skills that can be replicated at home.
